Executive Master in European Public Affairs and Communication - September 2018

Executive Master in European Public Affairs and Communication - September 2018

APPLICATIONS 2018/2019 ARE OPEN FROM THE 1TH OF MARCH UNTIL THE 25TH OF SEPTEMBER

Why do citizens show such a lack of interest in Europe? The reasons are many and varied: complex subjects, decision-making that’s hard to understand, and an elitist culture.

Communication is an essential tool to mend this fracture. With greater information at their disposal, citizens can be motivated to become more engaged and have a greater influence on decisions. For that to happen, Europe needs new professionals, new talented people, and new kinds of training. That’s why IHECS created the Executive Master in European Public Affairs and Communication (EPAC).

The European Union has an increasingly important impact on all our lives.

Brussels, the capital of the European Union, is home to the EU’s official institutions as well as many lobby groups, communication firms, research firms and agencies which have links with European decision-making.

To meet the needs of these structures, the Institut des Hautes Etudes en Communications Sociales offers a specialised course in European Public Affairs and Communication. This course combines theoretical study of the functioning of institutions with learning about strategic communication tools, and how to make practical use of them. It’s a combination designed to achieve mutual enrichment.

By bringing together the academic and professional worlds, the course is a true laboratory for debate, action and innovation and it fosters the practice of European communication.

This English-language course is based on project-based learning and has numerous partnerships with the European institutions and European interest groups. Graduates of the Executive Master in European Public Affairs and Communication are in a great position to choose a career in one of the many different European public and private organisations.

The dedicated teaching staff at IHECS include professionals working in European public affairs and communication. They call on their resources and knowledge to smooth the path for students eager to embark on a career in European affairs.

Europe is everywhere. The European Union has an ever-increasing say on the law and policy of each Member State, in many different areas. It is the main player and cannot be ignored.

The European Union gives impetus, produces standards, awards subsidies, promotes mobility, and encourages cooperation among countries and regions.

The ‘EU machinery’ also powers tens of thousands of skilled jobs. There is a range of employment opportunities: the European institutions themselves (Commission, Council, Parliament, etc.) plus a multitude of bodies linked to or benefiting from them, such as lobbies, European NGOs, regional and local authorities, European communication agencies, information centres, European media, event organisers, and technical agencies, to name but a few.

This European labour market is growing. It requires advanced qualifications. Moreover, it now also needs a broad range of skills covering communication techniques and European public affairs. Communication in European policy is clearly a promising niche market!

ADVANTAGES OF EPAC

  • One year of specialised studies, in Brussels, in the heart of the ‘EU’s machinery’.
  • 310 hours of classes and workshops, in English, with an adapted timetable based on several evenings a week plus some Saturdays.

  • European professionals working as teachers.
  • Numerous partnerships with the European institutions and European civil society.
